A re-recording of an old song I originally recorded around 1997 or so.
I've been making music using the name Exalted Dirt since the late '90s. Friends compared early Exalted Dirt Recordings to Iron Maiden and Metallica.
Story behind the song
The lyrics for this song were written many years ago at a time when I was just beginning to experience a deeper type of worship in the Holy Spirit.
The song was recorded for the first time some time around 1997, as part of my very first (self-titled) Exalted Dirt album, all of which was very sloppily recorded and mixed on a Tascam 4-track audiocassette recorder. I used a Radio Shack Concertmate keyboard's built-in drum loops and tuned my guitar down an entire octave to play as a bass. Only a select few over the years have been allowed to hear these early recordings, and it will probably stay that way.
I recently re-recorded this song for entry in a contest at indabamusic.com. I only had a week to complete it, and the final recording was acceptable at best.
This song is my first recording here at Jamendo for which I used the PC version of MTV Music Generator. Having said that, I also used this song for experimentation to define my method in audio recording and mixing for all the rest that is to come.
One person commented at indabamusic.com that this song has a "punky" feel to it. Early Exalted Dirt recordings were influenced by bands such as Metallica, Deliverance, and Tourniquet, though my own ability was nowhere near that. The chord stabs in the guitar solo section were an afterthought in the arrangement process, since the very first recording many years ago was not thought out at all. Having recently played a song called "Manifesto" at our church, that stab pattern stuck with me for awhile. I've often thought how it reminds me a bit of one of Green Day's big hit songs, none of which I know the titles. Also, as I heard one of my mixing test CD's thumping from my car CD player from the house one day, I said to my wife, "You know, that does sound a little like punk rock." She nodded.

Can't you see the Fire in my eyes,
Consuming laughter, burning joy?
Kills all evil within,
For His glory.
A living God is He;
Know His love so true.
Kills all evil within,
For His glory.
