Story behind the song
"Screen actors are failed stage actors" is a quote by the father of Gene Tierney (a famous and beautiful 1940s actress) who didn't want his daughter to go to Hollywood to pursue an acting career and to marry someone involved in the industry. According to him "the stage represented great literary masterworks while the movies merely did their best with loose reincarnations made crass for mass public consumption".
