Lyrics
“If I find in myself desires which nothing in this world can satisfy, the only logical explanation is that I was made for another world.” – C. S. Lewis
The nature of societies, industrial and otherwise
Is to compartmentalize and oversimplify our lives
But in any production line
There come defective specimens
Marginalized deviations produced by a continually optimized but incurably imperfect machine
Maker of uniformity and alienation
the ‘acceptable’ cost of progress
is that they break the mold
Or the mold breaks them
I am another square peg
Mashed haphazardly, into a round hole
Fit soundly, yet restless, uncomfortable.
Maker of uniformity and alienation
We don’t just want to know somebody
We are afraid of being alone
We don’t just want to know somebody
We want to be known
And each stroke of the hammer
Is an exercise of numbing pain
And Long suffering
How I loathe it
Claustrophobic
in a space not made for me
made so conformity is the easiest thing
and freedom exists
only in deepest dreams
oh, to not be a slave of me.
Maker of uniformity and alienation
There can be no quick fix for this
No consumption… to fill up the emptiness
No “consummation, devoutly to be wished.”
It’s often easier not to think of such things.
the lure of freedom,
how it evades our reach.
Jesus, come take away all the emptiness
When it all feels so meaningless,
I can’t stand all my helplessness
The only way I can feel free from this.
Vanity! All else is vanity!
A struggling against the wind!
