Story behind the song
The context of this song and fable, "Aesop's Fabled Romance" derives from the fabled life of Aesop, himself. Wikipedia provides some interesting related background: Aesop was an Ancient Greek fabulist or story teller credited with a number of fables now collectively know as "Aesop's Fables". Although his existence remains uncertain and (if they ever existed) no writings by him survive, numerous tales creditied to him were gathered across the centuries and in many languages in a storytelling tradition that continues to this day. Many of the tales are characterized by animals and inanimate objects that speak, solve problems, and generally have human characteristics. Scattered details of Aesop's life can be found in ancient sources, including Aristotle, Herodutus, and Plutarch. An ancient literary work called "The Aesop Romance" tells an episodic, probably highly fictional version of his life, including the traditional description of him as a strikingly ugly slave who by his cleverness acquires freedom and becomes an advisor to kings and city-states..." "The Aesop Romance", as applied in this song, is directly from a later allied (most likely fictional) account of Aesop as written and produced, in 1690, by the French Playright Edme Boursoult. After his original production, "Les fables d'Esope" premired in Paris, Boursoult wrote a sequel called: "Esope a la cour" (Aesop at Court) first performed in 1701; drawing on mention by Herodutus that Aesop had once been owned by the same master as Rhodope, and the statement in Pliny that she was Aesop's concubine as well, the play introduced Rhodope as Asope's mistress, a romantic motif that would be repeated in later popular depictions of Aesop. (Note: Aesop, in such romantic depictions like the A. Kauffmann's artwork for this CBC Fable Song, was made "most handsome" from his "very ugly" reported appearance. One of the many benefits of "true love"? - ha).

Like the other AESOP song, this has a lot of picking, which is very enjoyable for a guitarpicker like myself :) Nice progressions and I especially like the banjo! Well played and sounding good.
