Story behind the song
Based on my recent jury duty. If you take it at all seriously, jury duty is not an easy thing to do.
Lyrics
verse:
We didn't volunteer
To be the jury of her peers,
To decide on fair compensation
And how to make proper reparation.
chorus:
Justice has to be blind.
Justice: weighed on the scales.
Justice: what a rational man thinks is right
Justice.
verse:
The facts are stipulated,
But how are they related?
The defendant never takes the stand.
Her lawyer responds to the plaintiff's demands
chorus
verse:
It's our job to measure the plaintiff's pain,
To decide if she's asking for payment or gain.
Do all of the troubles in her life
Result from that brief moment in time?
chorus
verse:
Two hundred pages of evidence.
We've only looked at ten.
Page ninety-seven must be relevant.
We've studied it over and over again.
chorus
verse:
Who among us can cast a stone?
What happens after it's been thrown?
All that matters is the truth,
We can't consider the mistakes of youth.
