Calypso song about attention to time
I was a member of NSAI and went to Nashville several times for training camps. I was a fiction/non-fiction writer before I became a songwriter.
Sheila Dixon began writing songs approximately 12 years ago. She brought a poem to an Orlando “Nashville Songwriter’s Association International" meeting to start out. She met SusieCool (Susan Foster Trewick) there and they co-wrote “We Belong Together Through All Time". Over the years they co-wrote another 17 plus songs. Those are available on Soundclick as "The Healing Band". Besides writing with SusieCool, Sheila worked with another NSAI member Stephen Desjardins. They wrote “My First Love" which they had produced by the Beaird Group in Nashville.
Story behind the song
Sheila went on a vacation to a Caribbean island and was inspired by their attention (or lack of it) given to time.

C G Am F
On the lazy river, On a float I sit
C G Am
I asked another lady, Ma'am what time is it?
F C G C
She gave me a hard stare, She said, Who really cares?
F C G
I don’t count the seconds, Even though time beckons
C F G C
(chorus) Hey Mon, It’s Island Time, No shoes, no shirt, no crime
C G F G C
No ticking clock to wind, Hey Mon It’s Island Time
C G Am F
Living on the Island, Had a real hot date
C G Am
Told me he would pick me up, Said it would be by eight
F C G C
Got there at eight thirty, The look I gave was dirty
F C G
He don’t count the minutes, Plus his watch is on the fritz!!
(chorus)
C G Am F
Seven in the morning, Getting up for work
C G Am
Must rush so I’m not late, Boss can be a jerk
F C G C
Traffic is moving slow, It’s bad, only stop and go
F C G
I don’t count the hours, Till I’m pushing up flowers!!
D G
Bridge Plenty of time for the sun
D A
Plenty of time for much fun
D G
Plenty of time to kick back
A D
Plenty of time to relax
D G A D
(chorus) Hey Mon, It’s Island Time, No shoes, no shirt, no crime
D A G A D
No ticking clock to wind, Hey Mon It’s Island Time (repeat)
