Story behind the song
I composed music for John's fantastic lyric a couple of years ago and it sat on the shelf (my fault) until just recently. Never could get it right. Hopefully it is now!
Lyrics
Pawnshop Blues. Vocals, electric piano, drum and guitar arrangement - Ian Ferrin Bass - Spencer Wright Baby cut loose for another man And I swerved off the rails Had to take drastic action To get the wind back in my sails, I pawned everything she gave me And burned the ticket stubs Gave the cash to a charity For kids hooked on drugs. chorus Just my luck, she's ancient news But now I'm stuck With the pawnshop blues. Every morning when I walk to work And on my way back home I pass the pawnshop window And it chills me to the bone, Got to get her out of my system And start facing the facts But I feel her in my veins When I see those nick knacks. Repeat Chorus bridge There's a hand carved chess set A bookshelf stereo A wrist watch and a wrench set And a book about Van Gogh, Gifts she gave me with affection I treasured them all But now I find upon reflection They make my skin crawl.
