Singer-songwriter, arranger and producer: acoustic contemporary folk but ranging into rock/blues/country/jazz/humour...all very eclectic, I'm afraid!
Martin Stirrup Singer/songwriter An old folkie who got back into it... These days I sing and play guitar(s) and other stringed instruments, then score and orchestrate where appropriate. My taste becomes increasingly eclectic ranging from finger-picked folk through country to soft rock mixed in with a few more alternative and eccentric numbers, including the odd novelty foxtrot...

Story behind the song
Another song written whilst travelling in Myanmar (Burma) in 2012. This turned into a bit of an anthem, with its much-repeated chorus. I was recording the extra vocals with Steve Franks when his sister Lin popped in to say hello... and promptly got roped in. Steve added one of the lead guitar lines on this too.
Lyrics
Maybe tonight - I’ll be with them E B Maybe tonight - I’ll be at peace A E Maybe tonight - I’ll be forgiven C#m B Maybe tonight - I’ll be released A A G#m F#m E When the journey’s hard and the road is long E B C#m B A There may be things you regret along the way When you play that card and it all goes wrong E B A E Still you hope for better on another day So you take your chances and you ride the storm Never sure where it all may lead All your flights of fancy or your times of calm All your hopes that you’ll in the end succeed you make your choices and you steer your course Feeling sure you’re master of your fate Through dissenting voice and opposing force Through the vagaries of love and hate And the people come and the people go Take their places in the big parade Some get close enough and some you barely know Some in passing, some you wished had stayed
