Story behind the song
I grew up in eastern Montana, near where there is now a lot of fracking going on. Things have changed a lot there in the last few years as a result of the oil boom.
Lyrics
verse:
Daddy left the farm to us,
Interest divided three ways.
We leased it out to make a few bucks
'Cuz none of us wanted to stay.
chorus:
The farm is fracked
And there's no going back
To living off the land.
The water's gone bad.
We all miss what we had.
There's nothing but oil and sand.
verse:
We learned to drive on those country roads.
They're bumper to bumper now.
Lines of trucks with tank and pipe loads.
Derricks where we grazed cows.
chorus
verse:
Now it's five men to a trailer
And some sleeping in their cars.
Just go ask the jailer
What goes on now in the bars.
