Story behind the song
My daughter Katie is travelling light in North Africa and currently in Cairo, from the messages she sends me I wrote this lil ole tune.
Lyrics
Fold Away Written by Mark Cockerill 23rd March 2013
I fold away my kit bag and I’m off to see the world
A ball of string in pocket and my little flag unfurled
I’ll maybe go to Cairo and sail on down the Nile
Go hiking in the desert where sand goes on for miles
I’ll buy myself a woven rug and sit around the fire
And make a seat so comfy made from a worn out tyre
I’ll listen to the stories told by the aging men
To times of long ago things were much better then
I’ll fold away
I’ll fold away
I’ll fold away my life into carrier bag
I’ll fold away
I’ll fold away
I’ll fold away the bag it’s all I have
I fold away the ruck sack and venture down the road
Possessions tucked away it ain’t no heavy load
I don’t need a beast of burden to help in my progress
Two strong legs and fearless, I couldn’t care any less
Today I’m going adventuring to another town
Joyful in my step and without a heavy frown
I’ll dispense with the Asian rug and throw it on the fire
And make a brand new hammock from string and wire
And while I’m coming round
There’s a new kid town
And sits down next to me
He thanks me for the shoes
I took no dues
Have them they’re for free
I’ll fold away
I’ll fold away
I’ll fold away my life into carrier bag
I’ll fold away
I’ll fold away
I’ll fold away the bag it’s all I have
