Story behind the song
I left my first girlfriend (from "Ok Cupid") in Pittsburgh when I went for my freshman year at Syracuse. We tried to keep things going, but eventually we admitted defeat.
One plus one equals one means that when two people love each other, they combine to be one; but in this situation, we could not combine to be one and therefore had to separate entirely.
Lyrics
(Verse 1):
She says, "oh, I miss kissing you", in hope of common ground,
She opens her heart one more time, but she won't get a sound.
With her blue eyes shut in a sullen shout,
She feels her love walk swiftly out,
And she says, "but, I miss kissing you right on your ruby mouth".
(Chorus):
Well, one plus one equals one,
One plus one equals one,
I can't control all the damage that's been done,
Yeah, one plus one equals one.
(Verse 2):
She says, "Oh, I miss kissing you, it's torture when I wake,
In the late hours of the night and do not see your face,
And everything that I have ate feels so utterly out of place,"
And she cries, "When I am missing you, my life is such a waste".
(Chorus)
(Verse 3):
She says, "Oh, I miss kissing you, but my heart is so sore,
In a world where there is no trust in distance anymore,
You hurt me once, you hurt me twice, this other girl is really nice,"
And she roars, "Oh, how different things could be,
If you could just be at my door."
(Chorus)
I can't control all the damage to your soul
Yeah, one plus one equals one,
Baby, oh, baby, oh.
