Story behind the song
Written while hanging off the back of a garbage truck as it roared up Route 17 towards the landfill that was to became Giant Stadium.
Lyrics
I try to get near my baby, but she tells me to go away, I try to get near my baby, but she tells me “Georgie, go away today.” She says, “Honey, you stink so much, From workin' on that Garbage Truck.” CHORUS: I got them Garbage Truck Blues, don't know what to do, I got them Garbage Truck Blues, still don't know what to do. I been down and out of luck, Stuck here workin’ on this Garbage Truck I met a dog named Willie the other day, in O'Brien's backyard, I met a dog named Willie the other day, he was a sad-eyed, brown hound-dog, Poor Willie, he looked so sad; My leg was the best meal poor Willie ever had. CHORUS You say you heard a noise out by your trash-can, babe, this mornin' at 6:22AM You heard a noise out by your trash can, so early this mornin' at 6:22 AM That wuz me out there; I wuz singin'. Singin' those Garbage Truck Blues again.
