This is a heavily modified Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive. I just finished the mod for an old bud. This is the sound sample. First--played through a 2 watt Vox "Lil Night Train head and 4x12 cab. Second--through a B-52 AT-100 100 watt tube head
A modified pedal for a good bud.
The SD-1 has long been my favorite pedal to modify--so many tonal flavors to coax from it.
For those that don't know, the Boss SD-1 is almost the same circuit as the Ibanez Tube Screamer. The main difference is the the SD-1 has asymeyrical clipping, while the TS is symmetrical. I always swap out clipping does and add switching capability.
The pedal in this demo is my best yet. In fact...I'm building another--for myself.
It grinds and chunks like no other, but still transparent enough to hear the amps dynamics. It also responds well to picking. Most pedals are a one-trick pony. This one is like a team of Clydsdale horses.
For this demo, I used one of my Ibanez Jems, the 777 VDY. It's still loaded with the original DiMarzio PAF Pro humbuckers. I ran the pedal through two amps...just to give an idea of what this little monster is capable of: 2 watt Vox 'Lil Night Train tube head and 100 watt B-52 AT-100 tube head. My other amps are still torn apart for current mods. Sound clips of those are coming soon.
