Story behind the song
Name: Jess Yallup From: Cape Town, South Africa. Assignment One 'An Introduction To Music Production at Coursera.org.' My project is a summary of Signal Flow when recording & was recorded as an Audio Podcast. I picked this topic because I was most curious about how sonic information travels through our equipment when we are recording and mixing. What we need: You will need a Microphone, XLR Cable, Audio Interface & it's compatible USB or Firewire Cable, Your Laptop or Computer containing a software package that lets you manipulate the sound received. A good set of cans or monitors. Signal flow: • My voice, the Sound Source is creating pressure variations. • My Microphone - the Input Transducer - converts the pressure variations into voltage variations. • The Voltage Variations travel through the BALANCED XLR CABLE as a Low Level Audio Signal. • The Low level Audio Signal enters the AUDIO INTERFACE. The [PREAMP] inside the Interface boosts the Low Level Signal into a Line Level Signal. The signal is then converted into Binary form (It changes from Analog to Digital), ones and zeros, so that it can be understood when entering the computer/DAW. • The amplified Audio Signal moves through the USB Cable into my D.A.W where I can manipulate it. • Once effected it makes it's way back through the USB CABLE at line level, into the Audio Interface where it gets converted back into Analog and makes its way through the Output Transducers. In this scenario I am using 8 inch earphones as my output.
