The "Moonlight" Sonata Rearranged
Comment Share
A version of the "Moonlight" that I arranged. It's more dramatic and loud then the original, and is a fresh way to hear this timeless classic.

Incredible instrumental piano music by Josh Brahm! He also records with guitar, bass and drums.
My name is Josh Brahm, I'm 21 and I've been playing music for 17 years. I play piano, guitars, bass and drums, so I usually record my music alone in my home studio. Most of my music is inspired by love and friendship, and the memories I have of growing up.

Story behind the song
I always loved the "Moonlight" Sonata. Not everyone knows this, but Beethoven wrote it about a tragic love story happening in his life at the time. He fell in love with a piano student of his, a Countess, but her father rejected him, forbidding that they ever see each other again. When Beethoven first wrote the original, handwritten draft of this song, he dedicated it to her at the top. There was still a portrait of her in his desk drawer after he died. I imagined what this would be like for me, putting myself in his place, and I found that the chords he chose were perfect. One time I played this, after mentally placing myself in his shoes, and it exhausted me physically, emotionally and mentally. I fell off the piano bench after I was done, feeling drained of all energy. Ths is my version of the song. If I had written it, I probably would have pounded out those chords with all of my strength. After recording the first 4 takes, I opened a blister in my left thumb because I was playing so hard. The take after that, I let the blister hit one of the black keys so hard that I nearly shrieked in agony. But this song was written about agony, and I didn't want to give up. So I recorded one more take with all of the strength I had left, and that is the one you hear now.
