Story behind the song
It has been a long time, but I think I read somewhere about the "primordial" motivation of a God who is love ... wanting someone to love, and to be loved in return. He wanted ... a family.
Lyrics
(v.1) Why did God make the universe? Why did He make Adam and Eve? Why did He make a planet that will meet all our physical needs? And when man had to leave the garden ‘til someone could make things right, What motivated the Father to ask so much of Jesus Christ? (chorus 1) All that God wants is a family That’s why He made Adam and Eve And that’s why there is a new birth now So God can still have His dream. (v.2) Raise up your eyes to the Father So He can look back into yours It’s hard from Him to show us He loves us if we’re always looking down at the floor.
