Story behind the song
I don't care if someone's gay or not, but I hate perverts who mess with children, & that's what the original song is about. It's not "fun" to stay at the Y.M.C.A. unless you're a pervert who wants to "hang out with all the boys". The only people who are allowed to stay at the Y.M.C.A. are poor derelicts who can't affford a meal & a room, & that's not "fun". I heard that the Y.M.C.A. tried to get the original song banned, & that their reasoning was that they set up the place to keep children safe from that kind of action, & didn't appreciate those jerks telling those freaks to go there for that purpose.
