Just me. Just songs.
I was born with an undiagnosable brain dysfunction, having seizures, and with blue skin dur to oxygen deprivation. I would spend much of my youth on strong, mind-altering medication, I would ultimately end up being declared fully disabled on psychiatric grounds, and I've had to be committed to five different psychiatric facilities in three different states. These days, the primary thrust of my overall creative efforts is the advocacy work that I seek to do for the mentally ill and the mentally disabled. These are my songs.

Story behind the song
I initially wrote the core lyric behind "A Husband And A Dad" in July of 2008 and I was very pleased when my friend songwriter/musician/producer Wallace Anderson picked it up for production. My first production with Wally was the song "Hello World," the lyric of which I wrote the morning my youngest son was born. I was very pleased with the work that Wally did on that song and I knew in my heart that he could really turn this lyric into a good production too...and boy was I right :-) "A Husband And A Dad" is pulled straight from the fabric of my own days. I have a wonderful, wonderful wife in the beautiful Mrs. Bertram and I've been richly blessed with 6 of the most wonderful children...so when I write "This is all I'll ever need, This beats all I've ever had, I'm so glad I get to be, A husband and a dad," I mean every word of it...and I simply love the production that Wallace Anderson has given the lyric that I wrote about it. We hope that you like it to - so give it a listen and see what you think :-) Ray Bertram
Lyrics
A Husband And A Dad Verse 1: I have to go to work We've got bills to pay We got mouths to feed So I toil away the day When I get back home at night The kids rush to the door I give my wife a kiss Man, I see what I'm workin' for Pre-Chorus: She asks me what kind of day I've had And I say now that you're back in my arms You know it wasn't all that bad Chorus: A husband and a dad You know there ain't no better life Than raisin' up our children An' growin' old with my wife This is all I'll ever need This beats all I ever had I thank God I get to be A husband and a dad Verse 2: I help around the house I keep things workin' right I fix bikes an' skinned up knees An' make peace when there's a fight I read the kids to sleep an' then My wife turns out the light We talk, we share, we laugh, we love We kiss and say good night Pre-Chorus: I wake up to the sound of little feet It's Saturday, the kids run in And pile all over me Chorus: A husband and a dad You know there ain't no better life Than raisin' up our children An' growin' old with my wife This is all I'll ever need This beats all I ever had I thank God I get to be A husband and a dad Bridge: Way too soon the kids will go their own way We'll be calling these the good ol' days I'll look back on my life and see How very blessed I was to be... Chorus: A husband and a dad You know there ain't no better life Than raisin' up our children An' growin' old with my wife This is all I'll ever need This beats all I ever had I thank God I get to be A husband and a dad "A Husband And A Dad" (c) 2012 W.
