Making attempts to fully record at home in attempts to get a good mix! No mixing experience so Im learning as I go. Used drum loops to make the drum track and rythm I wanted for this experiment.. which has been by far the most fustrating! Sitting down and just riffing on the guitar comes natrual to me but sitting in front of the computer with an App and trying to come up with what I hear in my head and translate that with just a computer interface and not a intrustment was alot harder then I imagined!
For the guitar I just put together some riffs Id like to listen to while in mechwarrior trying to kick some ass to lol!! I wanted to just focus on a few core rythms for mixing and figuring the basics with something simple as well. I recorded the right channel with my MarkIV and then just recorded a 2nd take while playing along with the first take and panned it Left. I adjusted the amp settings on the Mark for the 2nd take here and there to just get a slightly more loose tone and didnt do any post eq'ing to it.
The Bass track I pretty much did the same exact thing but tried panning the both takes across each other just a little . This was the second most difficult aspect for with me recording and mixing. Im not a bass player in the least so I pretty much played it note for note with the guitar and kept it simple. To me its the most dissapointing part of the mix and I cant get it to fit like I hear it in my head... even all the way down to the tone of the bass. I wanted a really grindy thick bass drop in the mix versus a deep fat tone. Well I got neither as u can hear and what I did actually end up with I cant get to fit in the Mix...
Its either to quiet and doesnt even thicken the tone or the "grind" i was looking for or it either sits out way to much and dominates the guitar track instead of complimenting it. So I went with the first option and its just to thin to my ears and weak... lol ... but what I had!! Its a work in progress and I'm enjoying it , so thats all that matters anyway. Hope you guys like it and please feel free to leave any comments on Tips , Tricks, or angles you can pass down to help me get a better handle with recording tone and put it together in a good mix. Thx in advance!
