Heidi Wolfson is a Philadelphia singer-songwriter. In her fourth decade of making music, Heidi is taking a slightly softer approach... but her music remains vocally interesting and the lyrics are definitely worth checking out. If you like Patti Smith, you will probably like Heidi. Have fun and thanks for listening.

Story behind the song
This was originally written as another song, in 1985 about the Regan years, but in 1995, when we were gearing up to record mating calls, I decided to borrow my own music and write new lyrics to it. The song is about what it felt like to be Heidi and seventeen. A far cry from the song by Janis Ian.
Lyrics
Seventeen (1995) Dm A / Cm G/ Am F/ Am F The easy way I play this is open chords coming down the neck -what looks like an Am chord and then what looks like an F chord positioning hands beginning on the 7th fret, and then the 5th fret, and then twice on the 3rd fret. It’s very easy. I do that for the intro and the verses. On the choruses I play standard chords. I don’t require much I’m just staying alive A guitar and a basement, words churning up inside Bats in my heart, It’s a dark, quiet cave Love soaked images continuously play G Come with me and sit in the rain D Laugh and splash in this puddle of pain C We haven’t pushed ourselves hard enough A Well Let’s fall into a bottle of vodka G Everybody says through their fear D We’re looking back on our very best years C Maybe the living ain’t hard enough A We Love being young in America I’m riding barefoot in the subway and it never ever stops The streets are my blanket, I can feel the city rock A green army jacket and a mouthful of bread A pocket of coin reserved for my head Daybreak is long and time is smooth It’s just an attitude Nothing is actually happening to me We only get raped and knifed on tv And Everybody says through their fear We’re looking back on our very best years Maybe the living ain’t hard enough We Love being young in America Feelings and words are like a swelling balloon I’ve have groups of friends and bloodmates, but I’m always alone Love is misplaced, it’s got nowhere to fall I’m devoted and loyal, but no one wants it all I give it away and pull it back again I can’t numb it down, it comes up like a fountain Leaves me alone, wet and undressed These feelings leak out and they make such a mess And Everybody says through their fear We’re looking back on our very best years Maybe the living ain’t hard enough We Love being young in America (lead break) Refrain includes first part of each of three choruses
