Story behind the song
this song, in shape, structure, and influences, is very similar to forever falling. it uses a variation of an open-c tuning, with the high e string tuned down to a d (the ninth, if you like that sort of thing). the opening riff is actually eighth notes with a dotted quarter (dotted eighth?) delay, using teh paul gilbert/buckethead trick so it sounds really flashy (check out echo song or big sur moon). then it breaks into an eighth-eighth-rest pattern (again, from a scale the summit song, awesome band) over top of a tool inspired rhythm section, before going full tool (really all i did was switch the emphasis from the syncopated guitar polyrhythm which was in 8 reps over 3 bars, to the drums/bass/rhythm guitar, which all started playing in 4) which was actually an accident and kind of took me by surprise, but i was blown away by how good it sounded.
the song then takes a turn for awesome and goes full distorted, along with the delay riff from the intro over it all, until all that's left is the lonely lead line.
really pleased with this one.
