KaBERTRAM!!! ...it's all about the music.
Welcome to KaBertram!!! - an explosion of sound, motion, entertainment, and talented people from all around the world, all making music together. And if KaBertram! was a hurricane, then Ray Bertram would be the eye at the center of the storm. Ray, a life-long "compulsive writer," started writing at a very age and he's never stopped. When Ray turned his writing in the direction of lyrics in 2008, things really started hopping. Working together with good friend and partner, musician/song-writer/producer and creative genius John Surbaugh, Ray co-founded BCC Global: The Back Country Connection, which made it possible for him to take his writing and cover the world with it. Ray has now seen his writing produced into songs in the United States (Tennessee, California, Ohio, North Caroline, Georgia), Sweden, The Netherlands, South Africa, England, Ireland, Germany, Austria, and beyond. In 2010, Ray and another one of his frequent partners, Swedish singer/musician/song-writer/producer Anders Larson, were signed by the prominent Swedish promotional house, Hit Works, and in the time since numerous of their songs have been placed under contract and aggressively marketed all around the world. And, to date, Ray's writing has been produced into songs covering many genres, including Pop, Euro-Pop, Folk-Rock, Country, Rock-a-billy, Adult Contemporary, Jass/Swwing, Rap, and more. Ray continues to write and to continually direct his creative energies onward and upward, always striving to reach higher and to move in new directions. Story behind the song
There’s quite the story behind this piece. I originally wrote the lyric in April of 2009 - I had just witnessed what can only be described as a horrific automobile accident…not only did it happen right in front of me, but it happened right in a place my wife and kids had been just shortly before. It really made me stop and think…think about things I generally think about and appreciate anyways…but things none of us can really afford to ever forget. - Ray Bertram I found these lyrics in the Songwriter101.com lyrics library earlier this year and when I read them the first time I thought, “wow, what an emotional story.” I love songs that tell stories and this story was so sad I almost cried when I read it. I put together a few chords that I thought sounded appropriate and chose an electronic sounding style. Now, singing is not one of my strengths and since I had to cover a huge vocal range I used a lot of pitch correction when I recorded my first vocal demo of this song. The vocals sounded weird, but in a way well-fitting. Later on I learned to sing the song and recorded another set of vocals without pitch correction but they didn’t fit the sound of the music as well as the original recording did. So I left the synth-sounding vocals intentionally in there. I had a couple of people listen to this demo and got mostly the same reactions from them: at first they looked at me and asked “Is that you singing?” and by the time the song ended they had to wipe the tears from their face. Give the same a listen and see what you think - I bet that you end up being glad that you did. - Robert Baitinger
Lyrics
The Worst Day Of His Life Verse 1: Their whole life Was like a dream come true He loved her so much She loved him too Such a pretty girl He was my best friend He never knew Just how it all would end Chorus: I was at ground zero With a front row seat The day she left him On that busy city street She was his best friend His loving wife The day he lost her was The worst day of his life Verse 2 It was a perfect day Things were going fine When that drunk driver came And crossed that white line Then she was gone In the blink of an eye I held him while He broke down and cried Chorus: I was at ground zero With a front row seat The day she left him On that city street She was his best friend His loving wife The day he lost her was The worst day of his life Bridge: I was a diff’rent man…when I got home late that night I put my arms around you…and held you tight Chorus: I was at ground zero With a front row seat The day she left him On that busy city street She was his best friend She was his loving wife The day he lost her was The worst day of his life Lyrics: W.
