KaBERTRAM!!! ...it's all about the music.
Welcome to KaBertram!!! - an explosion of sound, motion, entertainment, and talented people from all around the world, all making music together. And if KaBertram! was a hurricane, then Ray Bertram would be the eye at the center of the storm. Ray, a life-long "compulsive writer," started writing at a very age and he's never stopped. When Ray turned his writing in the direction of lyrics in 2008, things really started hopping. Working together with good friend and partner, musician/song-writer/producer and creative genius John Surbaugh, Ray co-founded BCC Global: The Back Country Connection, which made it possible for him to take his writing and cover the world with it. Ray has now seen his writing produced into songs in the United States (Tennessee, California, Ohio, North Caroline, Georgia), Sweden, The Netherlands, South Africa, England, Ireland, Germany, Austria, and beyond. In 2010, Ray and another one of his frequent partners, Swedish singer/musician/song-writer/producer Anders Larson, were signed by the prominent Swedish promotional house, Hit Works, and in the time since numerous of their songs have been placed under contract and aggressively marketed all around the world. And, to date, Ray's writing has been produced into songs covering many genres, including Pop, Euro-Pop, Folk-Rock, Country, Rock-a-billy, Adult Contemporary, Jass/Swwing, Rap, and more. Ray continues to write and to continually direct his creative energies onward and upward, always striving to reach higher and to move in new directions. Story behind the song
I originally wrote the lyric entitled “Ordinary Man” back in August of 2009. In my mind, I wanted to write a piece that honors the beauty of the lives of “everybody else” - you know, all of us people who don’t really get songs written about who we are, what we do, our day-to-day lives, what matters to us…there’s so much to be appreciated and enjoyed there and on such a simple level. But sometimes we, as people, get so caught up in dreaming about and chasing after what we consider to be the extraordinary, that we tend to over-look and miss out on these simple truths and blessings that exist all around us and right before our eyes. If you know me and if you’ve followed me through the days of my life up here on the mountain at all, then you’ll know what a firm believer I am in these areas. Yes, I dream BIG (probably bigger than most lol) and we’re working hard toward making those big dreams come true as best we can…but in the mean time, there’s also a world all ready all around us to be appreciated - and it sure would be a shame if we missed out on it because we weren’t paying it proper attention. You know, some things in life only come around once…so you’d best keep your eyes open and catch them while you can. I wrote this lyric about it to make sure that I don’t forget what’s important in the midst of everything else we’re working toward. When my good frien German songwriter/producer RobertBaitinger picked the lyric up for production, it felt like he was literally reading my mind because his very first production draft came out with the exact emotional feeling that I’d done my best to channel into the lines while I was writing them - and Donovan’s vocals drove it even harder in that direction. And when we started this project none of us really had any idea of the monster that we were creating - EVERYbody loved it! The song touched so many people and it touched them so deeply that we ended up having 3 versions of the song made, making it the most widely produced lyric that I've ever written. In addition to this, the primary Adult Contemporary version, there is also a Punk version and a Reggae version...so listen to all three and see which is your own personal faorite. And we hope that you enjoy the song :-)
Lyrics
Ordinary Man Verse 1: He gets up ev’ry morning Ev’ry ordinary day He gets ready, goes to work In an ordinary way What he likes is normal What he does, routine He lives out His ordinary dream Chorus: Ordinary man He does the best he can Ev’ry ordinary day Ev’ry ordinary night Of his very very Ordinary life He’s hard to hold back ...Hard to understand Because he’s An ordinary man Verse 2: The whole world just spins and spins So completely unaware Of this ordinary man With his ordinary cares But it don’t bother him He don’t even know That’s the way That ordinary goes Chorus: Ordinary man He does the best he can Ev’ry ordinary day Ev’ry ordinary night Of his very very Ordinary life He’s hard to hold back ...Hard to understand Because he’s An ordinary man Bridge: We chase after… ...We race after… ...The extraordinary When there’s treasure Beyond measure In the ordinary Chorus: Ordinary man He does the best he can Ev’ry ordinary day Ev’ry ordinary night Of his very very Ordinary life He’s hard to hold back ...Hard to understand Because he’s An ordinary man Lyrics: W.
