Story behind the song
Another track from Loose Canon’s “Happy Horse sh!t” jam of September 1, 2012 – my “Over And Done”. Here presented is a rock and roll song, one of my few straightforward of such, rendered with the “unplugged” acoustic treatment. (Again, that is - there is already a decent solo/acoustic cut of this at my soundclick site, which is mirrored on FaceBook.) It was indeed a pleasure, however, to re-do this with a combo this last jam. Being Rock ‘N’ Roll, I thought I’d take a purposefully juvenile approach to the lyrics, not that that doesn’t come easily enough, even now. But I did want to have some consciousness behind them along with that attitude – namely, for better or worse, mine. Verse by verse, it is a description of rejection – of home, of school, and authority in general. In the first verse, a youth is leaving home, job or school. The second celebrates erotic attraction, and following that priority to the rejection of other “authorities”. The third is written from the point of view of a young animist/paganist rejection of European culture (I used my then very young border collie’s point of view ) - perhaps deserving of a new term “Libertine-ian”, rejecting the assumptions and constraints of a puritanical/Abrahamic world view. Finally the fourth verse is a little bit more focused on a more contemporary anti-capitalist take. This was written at least 5 or 6 years ago, way before Occupy Wall Street – still, it’s a 99% point of view of the 1%. Well, that unsolicited insight into the insane approach I take to lyrics has probably ruined any spontaneous enjoyment you might have experience on a first listen, but I hope you like anyway.
Lyrics
Ive been around the block I aint gonna stop I got some plans; I got my hands I got my shoes and socks I aint livin for your company Ill be OK alone I dont want a phone Got some friends; some means and ends And I aint comin home I aint dying for your property You know Im thinking that the time has come I see you winking with your cheek around a tongue Now I aint gonna sip your glass And I aint gonna kiss you last And I aint gonna miss you, when youre over and done Im cruising for a bruise She really blows my fuse I love the hair, I love the pair, I love those little shoes Nice touch - the denim and lace I want to kiss her bad I want to fix her good I love the rush that makes her blush I think its understood We should get together, for a face to face You know Im thinking that the time has come Ill need a shrink in before the morning sun Youre really lookin fine so far So fine youre like a movie star But the way you look your best, hon, Is when youre over and done BREAK for INSTRUMENTAL LEADS I just wanna run I just wanna leap And I just wanna do it when were out there in the street Its a simple philosophy I wanna to take a chance I wanna chew the plants I got my hair, I got the air and I just wanna dance It aint gotta be another wounded knee You know Im thinking that the time has come I dont need your trinkets, this animal aint dumb You tell me youre my saving grace Thats why I stuck around this place But any more it aint no fun so its over and done The bigger that you are The harder that you fall And I cant wait until the date Youre up against the wall If you could listen, you could hear the sound You take everything we make And you put it on your plate You aint no friend and in the end You take up too much space Get out of town before the sun goes down You know Im thinking that the time has come Its a little too kinky down here under your thumb You can try to fix your face But youre only stinkin up the place You think you won but youre over and done You think you won but youre over and done
