Lyrics
This Is Your House By Dan Adkins www.danadkins.com The rich man built many houses- it was his claim to fame His foreman made a living but not a fortune or a name He treated the rich man kindly, for his job he kept an air But, in his heart of hearts, he always felt it wasn’t fair He did most of the working, but his check was quickly spent The rich man had a mansion while he could barely pay the rent For forty years of blood and sweat there wasn’t much to show The rich man told me they were friends But the foreman told me “No” There came the day the rich man said, “It’s time I laid it down Before I do build one last house, the best one in this town And while you do I think I’ll take a trip - a rest well earned I trust you- we’re the best of friends, in three months I’ll return” The foreman said, Now I’ve got the chance I always tried to find And it will be so easy- out of sight and out of mind I’ll pay off the inspectors- buy the cheapest parts and wood I’ll cut some corners, make some deals And I’ll set myself up good” Now in three months, just like he said, The rich man came back home He called and said I want to see the house and I can’t go alone It looked so fine he could never tell- From the roof down to the deed It wasn’t really built to last- It was built for the foreman’s greed And he said, “This is your house- you built with your own hands I thought that way you’d love it, it’s always been my plan And it’s the kind of house I know you never could afford But for a life of faithful service my dear friend, This house is your reward Now as I sing this story I think what Jesus said He’s building me a mansion from the parts I send ahead And I want to be faithful as He’s preparing this place ‘Cause I’m looking forward to the day I see the builder’s face And he’ll say, “This is your house- I built with my own hands I thought that way you’d love it- It’s always been my plan And it’s the kind if house I know you never could afford But for a life of faithful service my dear friend, This house is your reward
