Story behind the song
Not only can this song be interpreted as a lament for a lost love, it is also analogous to the loss of anything one has been close to or used to, and then some process occurs so that you don't recognize what you have been used to. In my case it's the country evolving into something that doesn't feel right and elements that I hardly recognize anymore.
Lyrics
Freedom, just give the freedom The freedom to choose or the right to lose Help me, just help me to see Whatever happened to the girl I once knew I think it all went down when I looked away It was only a moment but now you're gone I want you, I just want to hold you Just like I used to back when things were good Tell me, just tell me the reason I need you to tell me why you walked away from love Go back, why can't we go back I just want to go back to the way things used to be I guess I always thought you'd be around I didn't see you go but I want you back Hold me, I just want you to hold me Just like you used to back when things were good I love you, I just want to love you Just like I used to back when things were good (3X)
