Lyrics
Nestled safe within the womb, embraced in mother's ocean, puppies born to know the bliss of water and its motion. In weeks, they toddle and they run. Some few prefer the mud. That need to seek out water runs strongly in their blood. Her whiskers damp and muddy, she paddles in her dish. To crash the waves, to leave the shore, is this pup's greatest wish. To float on waves, to feel so free, Gravity defied. The closest thing to paradise; to swim, to be alive. A kindred spirit takes her home. That passion that they share will help to build and seal a bond that really is quite rare. It starts with simple safety. Teamwork takes time to grow. But through respect and play and love, the partnership does flow. She swims, retrieves, delivers, tows drowners to the shore. And yet with all she's learned to do, she only begs for more. To float on waves, to feel so free, Gravity defied. The closest thing to paradise; to swim, to be alive. A life, a love, and both fulfilled. So rich, there is no sorrow. No excuses for what might have been, if only for tomorrow. Silver muzzle rests on weary paws. Her form, lumpy now and soft. Bones, they creak and muscles ache, 'til waves carry her aloft. She leaves the Rimadyl at home. Her cloudy eyes feel clearer. The water makes her young again, although her end grows nearer. To float on waves, to feel so free, Gravity defied. The closest thing to paradise; to swim, to be alive. While others walk that Rainbow Bridge, this one opts to swim. It's no Heaven for a water dog, unless the tide is in. To float on waves, to feel so free, Not bound by earthly ties. This dog swims now in paradise; The spirit never dies.
