Lyrics
Arrowhead Huntin’ with Rod
Man, let me tell you a story
Now it’s a true story, so don’t get all thinkin’ I’m just feedin’ you a big ol’ line
Me and my buddy Rod, yeah that’s really his name and it ain’t no fishin’ story neither so don’t start in on the “yeah, I had a buddy named Rod too, we used to go fishin’ all the time together” or nothing like that
His name really is Rod, and I’ll tell you, he was probably one of the biggest fishermen ‘round back in the day …
Heh, heh … No, I’m just joshin’ ya, he wasn’t really no fisherman …
Hell, I don’t know, he may have liked to fish, but this here story really ain’t bout no fishin’ … I thought we already got that straight … (38 sec)
Anyhow … me and Rod, that’s my buddy you see, we’us goin’ arrowhead huntin’ up there in them Ozark mountains where there was some overhangs where them ol’ Injuns used to, you know, clip ‘em out and stuff
But Hell, I don’t really know … they tell me they’s about 600 years old
Anyways … my buddy Rod was scratchin’ around in the dirt under this old shelf of rock and I had been up another bench or two lookin’ in another old place and I got a little tired of scratchin’ around myself … kinda bored, you know, when you ain’t findin’ nothin’ no how (1 min 19 sec)
I got this ol’ bright idea of slipped down on Rod and seein’ if I could get him all frazzled like and maybe throw a run-away so I could have somethin’ to tease him on when we was just sittin’ around drinkin’ and stuff
I found this ol’ Hog-nosed spreadin’ adder snake, you know they’s pretty scary when you don’t get just a real good look at ‘em and I kinda tied a string around it and lowered it down onto Rod when he was still all hunkered over and scratchin’ around in the dirt there
I was kinda snickerin’ up there on the bluff tryin’ not to fall off but I still wanted to see what he was gonna do when he found that snake up around his head (1 min 40 sec)
Anyways, it kinda balled up there on his head before he even knew it was there and he started staggerin’ around yellin’ about some kind of rattle headed copper mossican and I really got to gigglin’ then
I was just about to bust a gut, when the dirt slid just a little bit under my feet there and next thing I knew I was playin’ superman goin’ down through the air there
I just knew I was a gonner, but Rod bein’ the buddy he is, decided to stumble right on under where I was fallin’ there and helped me out by givin’ me something a little softer to land on (2 min 08 sec)
Now we finally did get back to the truck, had a few extra scratches, and bruises …
I didn’t tell Rod that I put that snake down on him … I kinda told him that I was commin’ when I heard all the commotion and slid on down the mountain there
The snake got away and Rod swears to this day that the spirits of the Injuns in them little caves sent that snake on him for disturbin’ their sacred grounds and stuff
I’ll just let him keep on thinkin’ that … now you don’t be tellin’ him …
Ain’t no tellin’ what he might do to get even and such …
Shhhhh … I think he’s comin’ now … don’t let on now … just act natural …
Nothin’ happin’ here … (end at about 3 sec before fade)
