Story behind the song
As a retired employee (30 years) of the Postal Service, I was very proud to deliver to my customers. It is top heavy and they did not take in proper consideration of the internet when automation was available. They purchased too much equipment and some employees got the impression, that the Post Office was for them, not the Land of the Free. Greed always comes back and bites someone: the results here stress and hardship for Americans who fought bloody wars, now because they have no computer savvy, they can't even pay their own bills. Someone put the cart before the horse. Our vets should always be first.
Lyrics
Six days a week I carry the U.S. Mail
through wind and rain and snow and even hail,
my four wheel drive,
won't get down some of these roads,
but I'll make it if I can, you know.
Now Mrs. Johnson's 94 today,
she's got cards and letters,
that will make her day,
but if I can't get there, she'll understand why,
cause Mrs. Johnson is a friend of mine.
I carry the mail with American pride,
to every man, woman, and child,
it's still a service that reflects this great land,
Ole Glory waves and united we stand.
Betty Sue Kelly meets me out at the box,
her Johnny's off, far away,
serving his country, the U.S.A,
she sees his letter and
it makes her grin.
I carry the mail with American Pride,
to every man, woman, and child,
it's still a service that reflects this great land,
Ole Glory waves and united we stand.
It's still a service that reflects this great land,
Ole Glory waves and united we stand.
