Story behind the song
"Wire" is a pretty basic song but I like the music a lot. Again I feel this is one of the stronger songs I've written by far. It's terribly depressing. The guitars in the end really make me keep listening to it though. Out of nowhere, on the original recording, I just played some guitar over top of the recorded track and created this beautiful arrangement of notes. I'm not claiming to be a genius but I really think it was brilliant. Those collection of notes drawing the album to a close really sweeten up a sad song. The song was written in my den one morning, while everyone was away and I was alone. I was trying to figure out Radiohead's "House of Cards". "House of Cards" was in some weird tuning with a capo. I changed the capo down a fret and played some random chords and came up with the rhythm for "Wire". The lyrics were halfway written already and so I worked on them a bit and finished them. The final guitar part in the end was improvised, with a delay pedal for effect. It's a haunting song about a drug addict and how the world is around them. Me, I have no knowledge of what it's actually like but I put myself in the mindset of a drug addict and came out with the lyrics. So mainly it's a depressing song about a drug addict's struggle. It could be interpreted as anything though.
Lyrics
Early in the morning
The long night has passed
And your suffering is gone
At last
You complain of the pain
But you'll soon find that the worst pain
Is nothing at all
You lose yourself in the haze
You lose yourself in this place
You know the drug you have to face
Caught by the wire
You're so deep in the fire
Some things you don't regret
And some things you don't forget
The pain that you feel inside
And yet you wonder why
Your days soon will pass
And you'll be free at last
With no one to push you away
Your world it has left you
It's crumbled underneath of you
And nothing you can do
Caught by the wire
You're so deep in the fire
Some things you don't regret
And some things you don't forget
The pain that you feel inside
And yet you wonder why
