Story behind the song
At an early Creation Festival, the temperature soared, the well ran dry, and the people were suffering from the heat. A story was told that a group of men gathered in prayer around a camper, asking God to deliver rain and a cooling breeze. Soon afterward, the heavens opened up with a mighty rain, replenishing the well, cooling the people, and transforming the weather so that the rest of the multiple-day music festival was comfortable for all. Performances by B.J. Collins on keyboards and vocals, Bo Collins on bass and vocals, Al Mosovsky on drums, and Shawn Opfer on guitar.
Lyrics
Send a cooling breeze across your land tonight. Make the children's voices sing your name to your delight. Blow a breath of life upon a world so full of need. Give your people's prayers your answer, and give them sweet relief. Oh Lord, it's too hot to sleep. Oh Lord, it's too hot to sleep. Oh Lord, it's too hot to sleep. Your promises keep. Lord don't make us bare, what we cannot bare, oh Lord! It's too hot to sleep. Your mercy we seek. Lord, all that we ask, is this too shall pass. Oh Lord! It's too hot to sleep. It’s too hot to sleep. Lord, it’s too hot to sleep. Send a mighty rain across your land tonight. Make the clouds declare your thunder and pour your drink of life. Flood us with your loving mercy, til our cups are overflowed. Let your holy power unleash the rains of the Heaven down below. Oh Lord, it's too hot to sleep. Oh Lord, it's too hot to sleep. Oh Lord, it's too hot to sleep. Your promises keep. Lord don't make us bare, what we cannot bare. Oh Lord! It's too hot to sleep. Your mercy we seek. Lord, all that we ask, is this too shall pass. Oh Lord! It's too hot to sleep. It’s too hot to sleep. Lord, it’s too hot to sleep.
