Linnet Woods singing a song she wrote in 1982 and accompanying herself on the guitar
Singer/songwriter since 1965. Have published a few songs, in the distant past, for other artists to use but this is the first time I have released any performed
Story behind the song
1982 was a special year from a songwriting point of view - this and many others just seemed to come tumbling out - some weeks there was one a day! I didn't get around to recording it until I was recording everything I could remember, in the back of my Transit van in 1989, just before leaving the UK for Spain and with no idea of where my travels might take me.
Lyrics
Long as the moon hangs in the sky,
there will be a star in you
There are things in everyone,
waiting to be done and undone.
Minute by minute is all you have
and no one else can make your mind up
No, no. No, no.
Man is born to work and play.
Is it right to waste yourself away?
A lucky man can get paid to play,
instead of toiling his days away
Minute by minute is all you have
and no one else can make your mind up
No, no. No, no.
Giving ultimatums is a dangerous game
Everybody loses, either way.
No man should ever be a slave,
to anything or anyone.
Anyone who tries to take your wings away
is surely going to take the rest some day.
Minute by minute is all you have
and no one else can make your mind up
No, no. No, no.
Living in an empty shell is no life inside
You will always know you could have made it
if you tried.
We all must choose between right and wrong.
It's hard to know just where we belong
In each of us the spirit is strong
and who we are is in us all along
Minute by minute is all you have
and no one else can make your mind up
No, no. No, no.
