Story behind the song
This song was commissioned for the official Military flag burning ceremony. We call her "Old Glory".....I wrote this song approx. 10 years before the attacks of 9/11 - when you hear the first line of the song, it will make you tremble - it still does that to me!
Lyrics
Blaze of Glory
By Rebecca Huseby
Vs1
I was up against the wall in New York City
And Ive been to hell and back a time or two
Of foreign wars and battles, Ive seen plenty
Korea, Nam, the Gulf to name a few
Ive been honored and applauded in some countries
Been disgraced and spit on right here in my own
I was pulled from a garbage can in San Francisco
By a Vet who gave more than most less than some
Cho
But Ill go out in a blaze of glory
And as the flames reach high, recall what weve been through
When the fire dies down to coals and ashes
Bow your head and say a silent prayer or two
Lord, have mercy on the old Red, White and Blue
Vs2
Weve come such a long, long way from where we started
We were based on trust in God and liberty
But along the way the pride outgrew the judgment
And corrupted everything we used to be
So as this flag burns lets pledge a new allegiance
To uphold our Constitution, strong and true
Because America is still made up of people
And when In God WE Trust theres hope for me and you
Cho
So take me out in a blaze of glory
And as the flames reach high, recall what weve been through
When the fire dies down to coals and ashes
Bow your head and say a silent prayer or two
Lord, have mercy on the old Red, White and Blue
