Story behind the song
I had a guitar composition together but no words for it. I lost my job a few months back and went into the funk you would expect. I was driving to a friend's house and the sun came out of the clouds and I had that epiphany that this would result in better things (yeah, cliche). The words suddenly came to me and the song was ready within hours. The first version was upbeat and fully arranged. This is the acoustic version.
Lyrics
Sunlight’s the best disinfectant
Cures the lost with the expectant
Oh Lord let the sun shine down on me
Matters not how the winds blow
Scatters fear to make a rainbow
Oh Lord let the sun shine down on me
Although I bear a thorny crown
I won’t let the pain get me down
I’ll let the rain wash away the blood
And wait for the sunshine to come out after the flood
The sun always shines after the flood
(Chorus)
I watch the snow melt on the lake
While dead leaves blow and cold trees shake
They’re waiting for the spring to bud
Patiently waiting for the sunshine after the flood
The sun always shines after the flood
(Chorus repeat)
I’d rather a sun burn than pale skin
Open the blinds to let the sun in
Oh Lord let the sun shine in on me
If it gets too hot I’ll find me a shade tree
Count all the leaves the birds and busy bees
Oh Lord let the sun shine down on me
Oh Lord let the sun shine down on me
Oh Lord let the sun shine down on me
Oh Lord let the sun shine down on me
