Story behind the song
This is a post 9/11 song. I think it is tragic that the hate and anger that exists on both sides of this "war" shows no signs of abating. It is only going to get worse. . .and where I am all for the removal of dictators who deny people their unalienable human rights,I also understand how WE appear to the rest of the world. The fact that the American Government is quick to oust someone who threatens their oil company constituency is not lost on me. Milsovic reigned for years unchecked. Additionally there are dozens of tyrants worldwide that no one is doing anything about, becasue they either are making sure that the oil is getting here, or they have no "product" that the Politicians care anything about. The bottom line is that the politicians can and will continue to use what ever justification they like for their actions. That doesn't change the fact that there are INNOCENT people (women, children, the elderly)worldwide who don't have access to healthcare, education, basic human rights, etc. This little manuever into Iraq, Afghanistan or wherever is not really going to do anything to help all of that either. Not until people worldwide start behaving as citizens of a world, rather than of a country or religion or ethnic group. The man said it best: "One world is enough for all of us"
Lyrics
The Rain Still Falls The world, it turns. . . Kingdoms rise and kingdoms fall An eye for an eye And the children die And that’s all We turn our backs, We close our hands and one thing more We make a fist And then insist On open war But the rain still falls It comes down on all of us The rain still falls On you and me The rain still falls On every one of us The rain still falls On you and me I am not like you Even though we stand beneath the sun But then again Am I a friend To anyone? When the rain falls down When it breaks a hole right through the sky Falls on you and me Will we see That there’s so much more to you and I But the rain still falls It comes down on all of us The rain still falls On you and me The rain still falls On every one of us The rain still falls On you and me
