Heidi Wolfson is a Philadelphia singer-songwriter. In her fourth decade of making music, Heidi is taking a slightly softer approach... but her music remains vocally interesting and the lyrics are definitely worth checking out. If you like Patti Smith, you will probably like Heidi. Have fun and thanks for listening.

Story behind the song
This is the first of a song pair, meant to examine gender roles. Although the sentiments of both songs are somewhat obvious today, in the literature, media and law of the 1970's, gender roles and inequities were quite the focus. It was a conversation we were all trying to have in round about ways. This song focuses on the female perspective. On a more personal note, I was not quite twenty years old, and perhaps, not ready for the committed relationship I was in.
Lyrics
SO MUCH TO GIVE (1978) G Am C D The woman has so much to give Where does it go? It only grows She has so much she could burst And it only gets worse She's pregnant with beauty Waiting to be born The more she releases it The more she is torn There is so much That you could feel You feel it so cheaply It's a steal But all you have to do is stand there and smile And push her away every once in a while She'll keep on coming to you She'll keep on coming to you She'll keep on coming to you And there is so little That you must do You know you need a woman's touch to make you come alive A touch that is so long and soft You'll call it when you die There is so much that you should do To draw her closer to you But all you have to do is stand there and smile And push her away every once in a while She'll keep on coming to you She'll keep on coming to you She'll keep on coming to you And there is so little That you must do It's not that she's crazy It's not that she's meek It's not that she needs you It's not that she's weak She doesn't need the touch because it's concrete She doesn't need the touch To make her complete She won't let the touch Put her at your feet So you can't walk away And watch her retreat She touches because It's the natural thing to do You can't save it with preservatives or can it like food There's so much left That she can give to you But all you have to do is stand there and smile And push her away every once in a while She'll keep on coming to you She'll keep on coming to you She'll keep on coming to you And there is so little That you must do

One of my favorites as well. Not only a great lyric but an unforgettable melody. Great song.
