Mile 97 first appeared in Southern California in the mid-1980's, and recorded and perfomed continuously until 1993 when, having released a dozen or so hours of experimental noise, appeared on several compilations, and performed before many diverse crowds, we took a short break which eventually lasted almost six years.

Story behind the song
Around 1990-91, I was invited to take part in a Residents tribute compilation cassette to be released by EEL O's Ecto Tapes out of Oklahoma City. It was to be called "Four Eyes Only". I went off into my bedroom and recorded the only Residents song I really knew, "Hello Skinny", and mailed the master away. Much later, I received a three-tape box-set, "The Residents Unmasked" which boasted a contribution from the (by-that time) late Snakefinger. The compilation sold-out, Ecto Tapes dissappeared off the face of the Earth, and my copy was promptly stolen. Recently, a copy resurfaced with a friend who was kind enough to digitize the track and send it to me. I now make it available to you.
