Trash-pop, guitar rock and melodic miscellany.
Not so much a band as a bloke with a guitar and a laptop, The Smivets deliver a genre-bending blend of pop, rock, punk, prog and many other monosyllables.

Story behind the song
Created for the hopefully annual Coconut Blues Club St Patricks's day celtic challenge 2012. I originally wanted to punk this up a bit more a la Dropkick Murphys but it ended up more like a bit of a Dubliners pastiche. Hey ho. According to Wiki a craythur was an iron age bowl used to serve alcohol or something, but nowadays it means one thing only - whiskey. Irish of course. So let's all raise a glass to Jude Law and the CBC - best fun on Soundclick and long may you continue!
Lyrics
Gather round my friends Now the week is at an end And we've freedom to savour What better to do Than raise a tumbler or two Of the barley flavour? We'll have stories to tell And a few jokes as well As we laugh and sing together At the end of the day We can wash our cares away With a drop o' the craythur. Old Eamonn went away No-one's seen him to this day Herself the slip he gave her. For thirty years and two She gave him what to do And he'd never waver. Seems it gave him the thirst, Well he wouldn't be the first And he won't be the last one neither, To forsake his wife And the torments of life For a drop o' the craythur. Some say life's a race, A never ending chase To out-do your neighbour. More of this, bigger that, More and more expensive tat To assuage the craver. Name dropping stars, Badge-tastic cars, Dwellings of grace and favour: You can stick 'em up your arse - Give me friends to share a glass And a drop o' the craythur! Gather round my friends Now the week is at an end And we've freedom to savour What better to do Than raise a tumbler or two Of the barley flavour? We'll have stories to tell And a few jokes as well As we laugh and sing together At the end of the day We can wash our cares away With a drop o' the craythur!

The Smivets rules ! Each time it gets better and this one gets to the top. Irish feel and some reminds of Roger McGuinn in the way you sing. Great instrumental works specially the acoustic guitars.

I'll slapeth my thigh, I'd slap the wife's thigh too, but I'd get a fat lip. A perfectly executed trad number S! A man for every genre. How do you do it? Well played!

INCREDIBLY well done Steve! Hot damn...you can play the bones outta that guitar! I thought the writing was excellent as was the vocal delivery. The other instrumentation had a big acoustic flavor (what was the acoustic instrument?) and the whole tune just ripped from start to finish. Well done on all counts. Color me IMPRESSED! One of the very best of the night for sure!

Spectacular production from start to finish...from the music to the rhythm to the vocals (especially the brogue and the harmonies). A festive musical party you've created! I raise my glass to you! :)

Never fail to hit the nail smack bang on the head Steve :) Sounds like being downstairs in Flanagan's Apple on Matthew Street on a Friday night, and equally raucous. A perfect party piece, and another one of yours that will no doubt go on to be a future classic! Guitars were proper good too :D

Fantastic, what a party! You create the perfect illusion of a night on the irish pub, singing all the old songs and drinking too much whisky. This put a smile on my face and my left foot started tapping the rhythm. Very well played and great vocals too. Love the accent.
