Heidi Wolfson is a Philadelphia singer-songwriter. In her fourth decade of making music, Heidi is taking a slightly softer approach... but her music remains vocally interesting and the lyrics are definitely worth checking out. If you like Patti Smith, you will probably like Heidi. Have fun and thanks for listening.

Story behind the song
In 1977, I lived for a short time (3 or 4 months) on Bleeker St., in Manhattan. My plan was to show up with my guitar and become Bob Dylan. Unfortunately, there were thousands of others, just like me, trying to do the same thing. I didn't last very long. I did however, play in all of the open mikes in Greenwich Village, at that time (including Folk City). I wrote this song in New York. I wasn't aware at the time that I wrote this, but I think that this song was about feeling overwhelmed by the impenetrability of the music business.
Lyrics
SURVIVAL (1977) Am Em Born into a black cloud, wild wolves in the desert howl at the sun as it's beginning its day Scanning the planes for a home for their name, to continue their lives, carry on nature's way They growl and their anger results in dried traces of blood on the desert skulls They howl into the night they know that theirs is destruction that god sees as right Survival in the continent of man Load up the guns Load up the guns The territorial war is planned The morning comes in the morning begins and there lies the body of another wolf The viscous ring of survival slowly sets in as another wolf cries, he gave his life to the cause A set of powerful teeth in the desert sun, laying limply inside another dead set of jaws G C G C C D C D Am C G Tame losing sight of their only name The price of survival continuously rises For the price of survival some would just rather die Some would just rather die Born into a black cloud, wild wolves in the city, howl at the sun as it's beginning its day Scanning the streets for an old piece of meat, to continue their lives, carry on nature's way They growl and their anger results in the millions left starving in the city's holes They howl into the night, they know that theirs is destruction that god sees as right Survival in the continent of man In the continent of man Run from the guns Run from the guns The territorial war is planned The morning comes in the morning begins, and there lies the body of another soul The viscous ring of survival slowly sets in as another soul cries, he gave his life to the cause Another powerful mind turning to paste, laying limply amid the big city's waste

I think I may have heard this one many years ago. I like this tasty line "A set of powerful teeth in the desert sun, laying limply inside another dead set of jaws" Classic early Heidi!
