Story behind the song
Before the start of FAWM 2012, Sheila Kaufman and myself traded a few poems back and forth in the forums. I put together a lyric from our poems and together, we enlisted the aid of TimFatchen to put together some music and mix it for us ...
Lyrics
My Friend Is A Rat (Verse) Let me tell you about some friends of mine, They’ve taken a nasty rap. For chewing through everything, And leaving behind their crap. But you don't know them like you could Take a chance, get to know one. Give them time, a friend you'll find Who will understand if you let him (Chorus) My friend is a Rat My buddy is a Rodent Muroidea They’ve been around since the dawn of time And will still … long past our day Ok … Bubonic was a setback But no need to dwell … My friend may be a rodent He’s part of the family still (Verse) They trail their little whiskers, Tickle your nose and chin. As you let them eat from your mouth, But careful ... don't let them in. Little hands that hold their food, To nibble ... then ask for more, And sitting on their haunches, While with their nose, they explore. (Chorus) My friend is a Rat My buddy is a Rodent Muroidea They’ve been around since the dawn of time And will be here long past our day Ok … “Willard” was a setback But no need to dwell … My friend may be a rodent He’s part of the family still (Verse) A site to see when they're happy, Little black eyes bugging out, Crawling through your clothing, and wriggling all about... Up onto your shoulder, Teeth grinding like a purr, Prickly tail wrapped around them, A pity it hasn't fur... (Chorus) My friend is a Rat My buddy is a Rodent Muroidea They’ve been around since the dawn of time And will still … long past our day They’ve had a few setbacks But no need to dwell … My friend may be a rodent He’s part of the family still (lyrics) Duane Clancy and Sheila Kaufman (vocals/music/mix) Tim Fatchen
