Just me. Just songs.
I was born with an undiagnosable brain dysfunction, having seizures, and with blue skin dur to oxygen deprivation. I would spend much of my youth on strong, mind-altering medication, I would ultimately end up being declared fully disabled on psychiatric grounds, and I've had to be committed to five different psychiatric facilities in three different states. These days, the primary thrust of my overall creative efforts is the advocacy work that I seek to do for the mentally ill and the mentally disabled. These are my songs.

Story behind the song
I originally wrote the lyric behind this song in 2008, just after my wife's father passed away. The lyric came back to my mind again in 2009, after my own grandfather passed on at the age of 103. At that time I asked my good friend musician/producer/songwriter Martin Gotz (Austria) if he would consider producing it for me, to which he readily agreed. I felt like Martin could produce a song around the lyrics that exactly matched what I was feeling...and I was right. Ray Bertram
Lyrics
The Other Side Verse 1: I know where I am today Ain’t quite where I want to be There’s a better place That I’d really like to see My load can feel so heavy It makes for such a hard ride But I know I’ll pull on through And reach the other side Chorus: I’ll reach the other side I know I’ll find you there I’ll lay my burdens down And meet you in the air There won’t be no more troubles The sun will never hide It’ll be so pretty there Over on the other side Verse 2: The way ahead looks hard The road looks very steep But I’ve got miles to go Before I can stop to sleep I don’t really know the way Or just what I’m gonna do But I can see the other side And I’m gonna pull on through Chorus: I’ll reach the other side I know I’ll find you there I’ll lay my burdens down And meet you in the air There won’t be no more trouble The sun will never hide It’ll be so pretty there Over on the other side Bridge: I will fin’ly stop to rest Forget the tears I have cried I’ll be with you again Over on the other side Chorus: I’ll reach the other side I know I’ll find you there I’ll lay my burdens down And meet you in the air There won’t be no more trouble The sun will never hide It sure will be pretty there Over on the other side The Other Side (c) 2009 W.
