Just me. Just songs.
I was born with an undiagnosable brain dysfunction, having seizures, and with blue skin dur to oxygen deprivation. I would spend much of my youth on strong, mind-altering medication, I would ultimately end up being declared fully disabled on psychiatric grounds, and I've had to be committed to five different psychiatric facilities in three different states. These days, the primary thrust of my overall creative efforts is the advocacy work that I seek to do for the mentally ill and the mentally disabled. These are my songs.

Story behind the song
This one has a fun story behind it. My family (the wife and kids and I) live in Arkansas. In September of 2008 we had our local county fair and the fair was kicked off with a parade. We all went down to town to watch the parade and, as the parade went by, a lyric for it fell into place within my head. Tony Atkinson ended up producing that lyric into our song “The Small Town Parade” - which you'll also find shared on this site. The project went so well that I couldn’t resist going back for more, so when the wife and I took the kids to the county fair the following week, I did it again. Like the Small Town Parade, the lyric that resulted is pretty much just a compilation of everything that my family did and saw while enjoying the county fair - with a little bit of fun tossed in for good measure. Very, very special thanks to Donovan Plant for producing this song and for doing such a good job and working so hard at it. Donovan is a good friend, he’s an extremely talented singer/musician/composer/producer, and he’s simply a blast to work with all the way around. We hope that you enjoy listening to the song...and who knows - if you've ever been to a county fair then maybe it will even bring back some good memories :-) Ray Bertram
Lyrics
The County Fair Verse 1: The county fair came to town Ev’ryone came down To see what was there All the rides and the games Were calling our names Laughter filled the air The sounds and the thrills Seemed to good to be real There was so much to do We laughed and we played Rode rides all day I was so lost in you Pre-chorus: The clouds in the sky sailed right on by It was such a perfect day Chorus: We went up and down Around and ‘round Spinning through the air Just us side by side On ev’ry ride All through the county fair Verse 2: Nachos, hot dogs One drink, two straws Made the perfect meal The bumper cars Made me see stars The fun house made you squeal You shouted my name When I played that game To win you a teddy bear I took twenty tries To win that prize But I didn’t care Pre-chorus: The smile on your face made my heart race It was such a perfect day Chorus: We went up and down Around and ‘round Spinning through the air Just us side by side On ev’ry ride All through the county fair Bridge: When we road the tilt-a-whirl It made my head spin But you just laughed and said Hey - Let’s do it ag’in Chorus: We went up and down Around and ‘round Spinning through the air Just us side by side On ev’ry ride All through the county fair Chorus: We went up and down Around and ‘round Spinning through the air Just us side by side On ev’ry ride All through the county fair Vocals: Donovan Plant All Instruments/Production: Donovan Plant Lyrics: Ray Bertram The County Fair (c) 2009 W.
