Just me. Just songs.
I was born with an undiagnosable brain dysfunction, having seizures, and with blue skin dur to oxygen deprivation. I would spend much of my youth on strong, mind-altering medication, I would ultimately end up being declared fully disabled on psychiatric grounds, and I've had to be committed to five different psychiatric facilities in three different states. These days, the primary thrust of my overall creative efforts is the advocacy work that I seek to do for the mentally ill and the mentally disabled. These are my songs.

Story behind the song
I originally wrote the lyric behind "I'm Just Gettin' Old" in 2008. Singer/musician/producer Johnny Hoeve (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) picked it up for production in 2009 and quickly rendered the demo that you'll hear when you click on the link. The song that Johnny produced has a Jazz/Big Band/Swing feel to it and, if you're my age or older, then odds are good that you'll be able to relate lol
Lyrics
I’m Just Getting Old Verse 1: Woke up this morning An' Got out of bed Another day older Nowhere near dead I ain’t as fast As I used to be But I’m still footloose An' Fancy free My mem’ry’s failing My mind, it can roam But I ain’t yet ready For the nursing home Chorus: I got twinges in my hinges And aches in my bones There’s a pain in my shoulder That won’t leave me alone My feet’s gettin’ tender My hair’s gettin’ thin God have mercy On the shape I’m in But I ain’t callin’ it quits I ain’t gettin’ cold I ain’t givin’ up I’m just gettin’ old Verse 2: Traded in my boots For some sensible shoes Years keep stacking up And I’m paying my dues I still can dance ‘Till the light of day Give me my cane An' point out the way I Can’t move as fast As I used to do But I still keep up With the likes of you Chorus: I got twinges in my hinges And aches in my bones There’s a pain in my shoulder That won’t leave me alone My feet’s gettin’ tender My hair’s gettin’ thin God have mercy On the shape I’m in I ain’t gettin’ lucky I ain’t strikin’ gold All that I’m doing Is gettin’ more old Chorus: I’ve got twinges in my hinges And aches in my bones There’s a pain in my shoulder That won’t leave me alone My feet’s gettin’ tender My hair’s gettin’ thin God have mercy On the shape I’m in And it’s only gettin’ harder To do what I am told I guess it’s just a part Of just gettin’ old Outro: I’m not over the hill I’m not past my prime I’m just pickin’ up speed And takin’ my time “I’m Just Gettin' Old” (c) 2009 Johnny Hoeve, W.
