I've been creating all kinds of songs for over 30 years, but I never sell any of them. I try to give them away to charities that have musician spokespeople, but

Story behind the song
For this one, I pulled what I call,"A Bob Dylan", since he so obvioisly writes lines just to end up with the last word to rhyme with the last word on the line before, rather often. I made a list of every word that I could think of that ended with "A" sound, then another one for the "I's" sound. Then I just kept making up stuff about my affair with my High School Sweetheart until I ran out. I particularly like the line about the stars somehow spelling it out across the skies. Kind of a mixture of true, along with exaggerations & fabrications.
Lyrics
I've got a thing or two to tell you now, my dear, I've got a word or two to say, I don't see why we can't be friends since all that we've been though, It didn't have to be this way. If you had kept the the love we dreamed on every night, And not the game you had to play, I don't see how there could be anything to cause us pain, We still could be in love today. But if the stars could somehow spell it out across the skies, What more then could it take to make you fully realize, That it was not our faults, we were two young & frightened kids, The time gone by was 'sposed to make us wise. If you believed the love I had for you was real, And didn't let it go astray, I don't see how you could've let me leave your side that night, We could've made it anyway. You could've stood for me as I protected you, Not like your feet were made of clay, I don't see why you chose to make me wait out in the cold, A debt you never can repay. But love like ev'ry second off the clock so often flies, And 'less it's kept alive, it withers & then slowly dies, You can't do anything 'less you give it ev'ry ounce you've got, The time gone by was brought on by your lies. You gave up so much when you let that feeling go, A love like that you don't mislay, I don't see what you thought you'd gain by letting our love slide, They don't come oft' on silver tray. A lie is something that can kill a long affair, An evil dragon that you slay, I don't see how you could've let one come between us then, A scar you know is apt to stay. But sometimes love is based on what the other person buys, The love you promised to me was not meant for other guys, It hurts to think of you out making love to someone else, The time gone by could span the bridge of sighs. In love you're 'sposed to show each other that you care, You shouldn't let those feelings fray, I don't see why you cried to keep me waiting by your side, And then to let it slip away. If I were you I'd try to find him once again, So do it now & don't delay, I don't see how you could forget me, so go find your love, And hold on to it come what may. But living love like that is not a trend that's on the rise, It's hard to keep a love, that's something that no one denies, It wasn't easy but we had a rush that beats all highs, The time gone by just never satisfies. But you can tell how someone feels by seeing how he cries, And you can tell I love you just by looking in my eyes, They say it's crazy but I feel just like the night we met, The time gone by could not undo the ties.
