Story behind the song
I was walking down Whittier Blvd., on my way to play some songs with my new Japanese friends from Whittier College, when these lyrics came to me. They played traditional Japanese folks songs, & asked me to put English lyrics to their melodies. Not to translate, as it loses something like that. They were all from Japan, & had Japanese names. One was Yukari, & I wrote an ode for her, just before she went back to Japan, but had to make sure that her friends translated it correctly, & made sure that she knew that I was exaggerating to make it sound more dramatic, & that I was not truly head over heels about her, like the song does sound. We never dated, or anything at all like that, & I never saw, or even heard from her again. But this song's not about her. Just made it all up. There was one gal that I was with one night, & it did take days to finally wash off all of her lingering perfume scent. My friends had a field day.... Field days!
