Story behind the song
You can't go to a big city without seeing homeless people and you never know thier story or what led them to this. About one-third of the adult homeless population are veterans. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) states the nation’s homeless veterans are predominantly male, with roughly five percent being female. The majority of them are single; come from urban areas; and suffer from mental illness, alcohol and/or substance abuse, or co-occurring disorders. About one-third of the adult homeless population are veterans. Veterans Affairs (VA) estimate that over 67,000 veterans are homeless on any given night. Over the course of a year, approximately twice that many experience homelessness.Try to do something for a vetern today even if it is just to thank them for thier service to our country, thier many sacrafices have helped to keep us all free.
Lyrics
Folks pass him by daily, barely spare him a glance, They read his sign and say, just another pan-handler, Judge his unkept looks, there's another 2-bit drunk, What's this world commin' to, hey begger get a job.. (Pre-Chorus) He's someone.... to someone somewhere, somebody's hero.. Who's come home.. Now that he's home he still keeps on fighting, But now it's the mother of all wars, (Chorus) He gave his best for a banner of glory, Spend blood sweat and tears.. He's been to hell and back, To find hell has followed him here.... He's just another wounded soldier, Fighting emotional warfare, It's a cryin' shame that his is a far cry.... ....From a hero's story.... (Verse 2) If he died on the front lines, he'd be front page news, Now he fights for his life, depressed and destitute, Has this man lost his mind, has this country passes the buck, Someone look him in the eye, and add hope to his pocket.. (Pre-Chorus) He's someone.... to someone somewhere, somebody's hero.. Who's come home..Now that he's home he still keeps on fighting, But now it's the mother of all wars, (Chorus) He gave his best for a banner of glory, Spend blood sweat and tears.. He's been to hell and back, To find hell has followed him here.... He's just another wounded soldier, Fighting emotional warfare, It's a cryin' shame that his is a far cry.... ....From a hero's story.... (Bridge) His mamas spilled those tears of worry and joy.. His daddy hold him up high.... just like that banner of glory....
