Story behind the song
I wrote this song as a gift for my wife because we love Savannah so much!
Lyrics
Savannah – by Greg Scheuer (© 2003)
It’s a warm southern day in eastern GA
Down by the river
Spanish moss in the trees cobble stone streets
Down by the river
How I long to hear them sing down in market square
And horse drawn carriages are waiting there
To take you any where you want to go
In Savannah my heart’s home
Many artists’ soles are hanging on the walls
In the galleries
Or if you prefer a trolley car tour
Take in some history
How I long to make the trip out to Tybee Island
Have a seat at Fanny’s on the Beach
And just sit back and enjoy the sounds
Of Savannah my heart’s home
As early sun rise opens up my eyes
It’s soon time to leave
Just one last chance to stick my toe’s in the sand
Down at the beach
How I long for the very day when I return
Where my spirit’s free to experience everything
For which my heart has ever yearned
In Savannah my heart’s home
