Story behind the song
Dedicated to modern-day blues master Walter Tore, this is an acoustic demo version of a Texas shuffle song that I've been working on for ages. Walter used to play in the house band at the now defunct Black Cat Lounge in Austin, Texas.
Lyrics
Won't you take me down to Texas, I really want to go. Won't you take me down to Texas, I really want to go. It's not the pretty women - I just love that music so. Won't you take me down to Austin, Where the Black Cat used to prowl. Won't you take me down to Austin, Where the Black Cat used to prowl. I want to close my eyes and listen And hear those ghostly guitars howl! Won't you take me down to Centreville, Where Sam Hopkins had his birth. Won't you take me down to Centreville, Where Sam Hopkins had his birth. I want to see where the thunder comes from; I want to see where Lightnin' struck the Earth! I want to listen to Stevie Play the blues on heavy strings. I want to listen to Stevie Play the blues on heavy strings. I don't know how he did it, but he used to make the Fender ring! Won't you take me down to Texas, I really want to go. Won't you take me down to Texas, I really want to go. It's not the pretty women - I just love that music so.
