Trash-pop, guitar rock and melodic miscellany.
Not so much a band as a bloke with a guitar and a laptop, The Smivets deliver a genre-bending blend of pop, rock, punk, prog and many other monosyllables.

Story behind the song
Ahem no it's not based on a true story. Your honour.
Lyrics
It started out back last March when I joined that trucking firm We hit it off as friends right from day one We fought and joked like siblings Made up names for one another You called me Peter Built I called you Loriella Well I wasn't your type and you certainly weren't mine And neither of us was looking I know that's true We turned that firm around Got those trucks running out to time Sometimes you don't see what's right in front of you. But when you touched my hand And held it to you Everything changed It was like a hurricane We were swept along Left dazed and breathless in its wake I didn't think we'd ever come up for air So this is how it ends Loriella We should have just stayed friends Loriella We didn't think it through It was the wrong thing to do But I'll never forget you My Loriella It's hard to admit that something so profound was a mistake Hard to see what everybody knew Nothing really changed We just had to burn down that flame Sometimes you don't see what's right in front of you. So this is how it ends Loriella We should have just stayed friends Loriella We didn't think it through It was the wrong thing to do But I'll never forget you My Loriella

Great song Steve and other Smivets! Wonderful vocal, instrumentals, LYRICS - too bad, Seth, the story is/was not true - ha - sorta kidding. But this sure would make a great story line for a movie. Check out American Film Star and Producer Edward Burns on the Internet. His movies now are all "shoe string low budget" and self filmed - often his own original stories. Always simple in essence from the heart and guts like the lyrics to your "Loriella". Why not send him your tune and suggest the brief words could inspire a real human interest love story film? Ya never know - he might just like it and then...lol...I always like to dream big. Regardless, super song Steve!!!!!

Great songwriting and really great vocals. This is really a beautiful ballad and you sing it so well, with the right storytelling touch. Some of your keyboards sound a lttle too "midi" to me, but your guitars sound wonderful. Love the little twist when you extend the chords, to make them even bigger. Great stuff!

Ok...this drew me in just by reading the lyrics (very relateable...maybe we all have similar situations in our history)...then hearing the performance gave it that much more emotional impact. Just excellent all around!

This is sweet! Has a kind of Procol Harum feel which is a sound I really like. Some nice song writing.

True or not, it's a story that is very real in our minds when we're listening to it - conveyed and performed brilliantly. It's got a great sense of genuine emotion to it. Love the arrangement and the use of the strings. The perfect way to mark your SC anniversary!
