Inspired in part from Psalm 56:8 and John 8:32, this song is a testimony, a prayer and above all, a love song to the Lord. Recorded
live during a “Night of Prayer and Praise” on June 2, 2002 at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Pembroke Pines, FL.
Christian singer/songwriter
Born and raised as a Catholic, my walk with the Lord has taken me on a quite a journey the past 42 years of my life. Through it all, His loving arms have carried me. Sometimes with me kicking and screaming for Him to let go and more often than not, without my awareness or recognition that He was indeed carrying me. In the last 11 years, He has revealed Himself to me in stunning and humbling ways. And I'm grateful for the "ride". The journey continues.
Story behind the song
Born and raised as a Catholic, I am currently a band member (singer, guitarist) of the Music Ministry of St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Pembroke Pines, Florida.
My walk with the Lord has taken me on quite a journey for the past 41 years of my life. Through it all, His loving arms have carried me. Sometimes with me kicking and screaming for Him to let go and more often than not, without my awareness or recognition that He was indeed carrying me. In the last 10 years, He has revealed Himself to me in stunning and humbling ways. And I’m grateful for the “ride”.
“He Came For Me” is the first song I’ve written specifically for Him and to Him. Indeed, it was given to me by the Holy Spirit Himself to bring praise to the Son. It is a testimony, a prayer and above all, a love song to the One who deserves all glory, Who is worthy of all praise.
This song was recorded live during a “Night of Prayer and Praise” on June 2, 2002 at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Pembroke Pines, Florida. Special Thanks to our Pastor, Fr. Michael J. Eivers, for his support; to our Music Ministry of choir and band, for their heavenly voices and inspired orchestration; to Mary Anne Quatman, Head Music Director and Ines Ramirez Calderon, Assistant Music Director for their encouragement, talents and contributions; and to my wife, Tabatha, for her love.
In Him, I am,
Michael
Lyrics
People often ask me why
there’s a calmness in my eyes.
I have a special Friend.
Neither worldly nor refined,
mostly scorned by His own kind,
He sought forsaken men.
"How can you believe?", they say.
I tell of the day…
He came for me. He died for me.
He let them nail Him to a cross so I’d be free.
I’ll testify ‘til my last breath and I’ll give
thanks to the One who conquered death.
He came for me…
Not a single day goes by
(that) I’m not humbled by Your life.
Lord, what You’ve done for me.
And I can see the irony
(that) before you pray, you first must kneel.
You brought me to my knees.
And when my faith falters,
I remember the day…
You came for me. You died for me.
You let them nail You to a cross so I’d be free.
And so I pledge my life to You
And I will glorify Your Name in all I do.
You came for me…
Yes, I remember the day,…
when all had seemed lost,...
And I looked at my life,…
and all it had cost.
(And) You reached out Your Hand to me,…
(And) You drew Yourself (so) near,…
(And) You pulled from Your pocket,…
a bottle of my tears…
I came for you.
I died for you.
I let them nail Me to a cross because I love you.
So take My Hand and follow Me,… And you shall
know the truth and it shall make you free.
You came for me. You died for me.
You let them nail You to a cross so I’d be free.
And now I know my life is Yours
And I have finally found what I’ve been searching for…
You came for me! He came for me!
(Repeat 4 times)
Hosanna to the Lamb! He came for me!
(Repeat 4 times)
